GETTING IT ON WITH GOOGLE
GOOGLE BEGAN IN 19 96 as a research project by Larry Page, a graduate student at Stanford University. He was soon joined by Sergey Brin. They hypothesized that a search engine that analyzed the relationships between websites would produce better ranking of results than existing techniques, which ranked results according to the number of times the search term appeared on a page.
Their hypothesis proved to be correct. Their search results were clearly superior, and it didn't talk long for much of the would to realize this. Today, about two-thirds of Internet searches go through Google.
The company's overall formula for ranking Websites is a carefully kept secret. Nobody outside the company can guarantee top listings. But there has been one constant: Links are associated with Relevancy, and relevant sites get favorable attention. The Sites in Captain D's Links Exchange tend to do better than others. It's simple as that.
